Dynamic capabilities and their approach to innovation in MSMEs of the dairy sector in Manabí, Ecuador

Abstract

Improving the sustainable performance and competitive advantage of organizations, especially dairy MSMEs in Manabí, Ecuador, depends largely on the strategic integration of dynamic capabilities and innovation in a changing environment. Given this context, the objective was to analyze the influence of dynamic capabilities on the innovation processes of MSMEs in the dairy sector in Manabí, Ecuador. This research adopted a quantitative, cross-sectional, field-based, and correlational approach. Thirteen dairy MSMEs in the northern region of Manabí, selected through non-probability sampling, were surveyed. Validated and adapted questionnaires were used to measure dynamic capabilities and innovation. The statistical analysis, performed in SPSS, included an assessment of internal reliability using Cronbach's alpha (α = 0.957). The normality test showed a significance level of less than 0.05, indicating that the variables are not normally distributed. The correlation analysis yielded a coefficient of 0.826, demonstrating a strong, positive relationship between dynamic capabilities and innovation. The results show that these companies excel in their ability to identify environmental knowledge, adapt to the market, and integrate internal and external expertise, with an innovative focus above the regional average. In conclusion, these companies combine operational efficiency and an innovative culture, which strengthens their competitiveness.
