Editorial Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

In alignment with the principles of academic integrity, methodological transparency, and ethical conduct in scientific publishing, RES NON VERBA establishes the following guidelines for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in manuscript preparation:

  1. Declaration of Use

Any use of AI tools must be explicitly disclosed in the manuscript. The declaration should appear in the methodology section and must include:

  • The name and version of the AI tool(s) used.
  • The functionalities applied (e.g., grammar correction, style enhancement, summarization).
  • The specific sections of the manuscript where AI tools were employed.

  1. Limitations of Use

AI tools are allowed exclusively as supportive tools to enhance language, structure, or writing style. Under no circumstance should AI be used to:

  • Generate data
  • Formulate hypotheses
  • Interpret scientific results
  • Conduct critical analysis
  • These activities must remain the sole responsibility of the authors.

  1. Author Responsibility

Authors are fully responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and originality of their manuscript. They must:

  • Review, verify, and edit all AI-assisted content.
  • Recognize that AI tools can produce inaccurate, biased, or misleading information.

  1. Authorship Restrictions

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, nor cited in the acknowledgments section. These technologies do not meet the requirements for intellectual or scientific authorship.

  1. Use of AI-Generated Images

The use of AI to create, alter, or manipulate scientific images (e.g., photographs, micrographs, figures based on experimental results) is strictly prohibited.

Exception:

If AI is used as part of the research methodology (e.g., image processing, generation of visualizations or graphics), it must be:

  • Technically described in detail in the methodology section.
  • Justified in terms of its scientific relevance and validity.
  1. Policy Updates

This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated in accordance with:

  • Advances in AI technologies.
  • Evolving international standards on editorial ethics and scientific publication.

  1. Sanctions for Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with this policy may result in:

  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript during review.
  • Retraction of the article if the violation is discovered post-publication.

Additional editorial sanctions in line with the severity of the infraction.
