As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Articles must be original, unpublished, and not under evaluation or accepted for publication in other journals.
  • The journal does not allow more than 4 authors per article.
  • The Editorial Committee requires that each article must be written by at least one author or co-author holding a Doctor of Science degree (Ph.D. or Dr.C.).
  • The manuscript must be written in Arial 11 font, 1.5 line spacing, 0.5 cm indentation, letter-size paper, and standard margins of 2.54 cm (right, left, top, and bottom).
  • The document title (in Spanish and English) must be centered, in Arial 12, bold, and uppercase.
  • Author information should not be included in the submitted article, as it undergoes a blind peer review process through the platform.
  • Author data must be submitted separately in the author information form as specified below.
  • All manuscripts must include an abstract in both Spanish and English, with a maximum of 250 words. The abstract should state the general objective, the methodology used when applicable, and highlight the main results or conclusions.
  • Three to five of the most significant keywords must be listed after the abstract, in lowercase and underlined.
  • Tables and figures must comply with the guidelines provided in the author instructions.
  • Every manuscript must include a list of references at the end of the document. Following APA 6th edition guidelines, the heading REFERENCIAS BIBLIOGRÁFICAS must be used. References must be listed in strict alphabetical order by the authors' last names.

The ECOCIENCIA Scientific Journal is an academic and scientific publication dedicated to the dissemination of original and high-impact research. It serves as a platform for scholarly communication supported by Universidad Tecnológica ECOTEC, contributing to the development of a knowledge-based society while addressing the needs of the academic, social, and business sectors.

Types of Articles Accepted

  1. Research Articles

Present original findings derived from scientific or academic research projects.

Must follow a standard structure: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (IMRAD).

A minimum of 20 bibliographic references is required.

  1. Reflection Articles

Offer analytical, interpretative, or critical perspectives on a specific topic based on research or deep theoretical insight.

Must demonstrate originality and rigor through citations of primary and secondary sources.

Require at least 20 references.

  1. Review Articles

Involve comprehensive and critical reviews of the existing literature, identifying trends, gaps, and contributions in a specific area.

Must include a minimum of 50 up-to-date references, preferably from indexed and peer-reviewed sources.

Should reflect high-level synthesis and integration of prior research.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Authors must register on the ECOCIENCIA Scientific Journal’s website by completing the required steps. For detailed instructions, they are encouraged to consult the Document Submission Guide available on the platform. Manuscripts must be uploaded without any identifying author information, in accordance with the journal’s double-blind peer review process, which is carried out entirely through the online submission system.

The manuscript length should be as follows:

  • Between 12 and 20 pages for a review article.
  • Between 14 and 25 pages for a reflection article.
  • Between 16 and 32 pages for a research article.

Additionally, a separate file must be uploaded containing the authors’ information. To this end, please complete the Author Information Form with the following details:

  • Full name(s)
  • Email address
  • Profession
  • Academic degrees and languages spoken (including reading and writing proficiency)
  • Affiliated university and/or institution
  • Recent publications (optional)
  • Full home or office address
  • Contact phone numbers

GUIDELINES FOR PUBLICATION
Author Guide

1) Manuscripts must be written in Arial font, size 11, 1.5 line spacing, 0.5 cm indentation, letter-size paper, and 2.54 cm margins (top, bottom, left, and right).

2) Each author must provide their ORCID ID, which is mandatory. If not yet registered, please do so at: https://orcid.org/register.

3) The title must be written in both Spanish and English, centered, in bold, uppercase Arial size 12 font.

4) All manuscripts must contain a resumen (in Spanish) and an abstract (in English), each with a maximum of 250 words. The abstract must mention the general objective, methodology, and the main findings or conclusions.

5)Authors must include three to five descriptors or keywords (in Spanish and English) that best represent the content of the article. These should appear after the abstract, in lowercase and underlined.

6) Section headings within the manuscript must be in Arial font size 12 and left-aligned. There are five heading levels: Level 1 is the main heading, Level 2 is a subheading of Level 1, Level 3 is a subheading of Level 2, and so on, up to Level 5.

7)Tables:

  • The table number is placed above the normal title, in regular font (e.g., Table 1).
  • The title is italicezed.
  • All tables must include column headings, including an appendix heading (header for the far-left column or appendix).
  • The body of the table may be single-spaced, one-and-a-half-spaced, or double-spaced.
  • Align the leftmost column’s content to the left, but center the column header.

8)Figures:

  • The figure number is placed below the figure and in italics (e.g., Figure 1).
  • The title is written immediately after the figure number. A note is included, if necessary, below the figure title.
  • The source is placed after the note or, if no note is provided, directly below the figure number (e.g., Source: Own elaboration or referenced author (Year)).
  • The image portion of the figure may be a graph, chart, photograph, drawing, or other illustration.
  • Use Arial font, size 10 within figures.

References:

All manuscripts must include a list of references at the end of the document. According to the format established by the American Psychological Association (current edition). References must be listed in strict alphabetical order by the authors’ last names.

  • For two authors, separate their last names with “y” if the article is in Spanish, and with “&” if in English.
  • For three or more authors, cite only the first author's last name followed by “et al.”, beginning with the first in-text citation.

9)Below are some examples of the required format:

Book: Author’s last name, followed by the initial of the first name. (Year). Title of the work in italics. City: Publisher.

Chapter in an edited book: Author’s last name, followed by the initial of the first name. (Year). Title of the chapter or entry in italics. In A. A. Last Name (Ed.), Title of the book (pp. ##–##). City, Country: Publisher.

Scientific article: Author’s last name, followed by the initial of the first name. (Year). Title of the article. Name of the Journal, volume in italics (issue number in parentheses), page range of the article. 10)In-text citations must also follow APA style:

11)If the citation contains fewer than 40 words, it should be incorporated into the main text in quotation marks, with the author’s last name, year of publication, and page number in parentheses.

12)If the citation contains more than 40 words, it should be presented in a separate paragraph, without quotation marks, and with a hanging indent. At the end of the citation, include the author(s), year of publication, and page number in parentheses.

13)The author's name may be placed either at the end of the citation, as shown above, or at the beginning. For example: Senge (2004, p. 35) noted that: (followed by the quotation).

14)In the case of paraphrased content, include only the author’s last name and the year, for example: (González, 2012)

15) The receipt of documents does not imply their acceptance for publication. As with any scientific journal, all submitted material—without exception—will be subject to review by the Editorial Board, which seeks the collaboration of at least two expert peer reviewers to evaluate the manuscript.

16) If necessary, the evaluation will be shared with the author for the enhancement of their manuscript. The author will have one week to make the required modifications and resubmit the document to the journal.
